WAVERLEY Mrs. C. Taylor, Christchurch, is the guest ot Mrs. E. C. Dallison. TAIHAPE The friends of Mr. H. H. Harris, Taihape, will regret to learn he is at present an inmate of "Maitland" Private Hospital, Palmerston North, where he underwent an operation. He is making a satisfactory recovery. Mr. Harris is a well-known farmer of the Taihape district. Mr. Joseph Webb left Taihape on Monday evening to judge the Southdown sheep and fat cattle at the Wairarapa Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show. Mr. Webb has acted as adjudicator at several shows during the past three months. Captain L. W. Andrew, V.C., who visited the military camp at Waiouru during the week-end, played a large part in the organisation of the New Zealand military contingent which attended he Coronation, and was in charge of the mounting of the New Zealand guard at Buckingham Palace. Captain Andrew gained the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery on the Western Front some time after Battle of Passchendaele. He was leading his men under heavy fire towards a machine-gun, when a second opened fire. Pausing to overwhelm the crew he passed on and accounted for his original objective, permitting the general attack to proceed. He was a corporal at the time.
The Taihape friends of Mr. W. McLennan, of Wellington, will be pleased to learn that he is making good progress towards recovery after his recent serious illness.
