INTER-CLUB TENNIS
ST. ANDREW’S, MARTON AND RATA AT PLAY. MARTON, Feb. 13. Rain interfered with the inter-club tennis match at Marton on Saturday between St. Andrew’s, Marton and Rata, in the Wanganui C grade championship. When a shower stopped play at 4.30 p.m., only the men’s and ladies’ doubles had been completed. The tennis match at Marton on Saturday the games being evenly contested, one match going to 26 games. The Marton team has the advantage so far, winning five sets, 68 games to three sets, 64 games. Advice has been received from the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association that by mutual arrangement the contest can be concluded on Wednesday afternoon, commencing at 4.30 o’clock. The following are the results, Marton players being mentioned first:— Men’s singles: R. C. Ball 12 v. K. Green 10. Ladies’ singles: Miss K. Partridge 6 v. Mrs. N. Signal 9; Mrs. R. C. Ball 9 v. Mrs. P. O’Dea 3; Miss P. Brown 6 v. Miss B. Stevens 9. Men’s doubles. —Ball and B. Sawyer 9 v. J. Taiuru and S. Hartley 7; F. Parkinson and R. Jones 14 v. Green and T. Hartley 12. Ladies’ doubles: Misses Partridge and Brown 3 v. Mesdames Signal and O'Dea 9; Mrs. Ball and Miss M. Hunter 9 v. Miss Stevens and Mrs. A. Mitchell 5. MARTON DEFEAT FEILDING. An inter-club tennis match between the Marton and Feilding Clubs played at Marton during the week-end was won by the home club by 20 matches to 12. It was an interesting day’s play, in which the performance of the Marton ladies gained a victory for the local players.
