ON WANGANUI TRACKS
LOCAL CANDIDATES YESTERDAYS OPERATIONS Portal and Dynasty are the only Wanganui-trained horses engaged at Woodville this week, and Red Cat, trained at oFrdell, is the only other from this quarter. The majority of the local horses engaged at the Wanganui meeting were raced at Hawera last week and therefore did not require to be worked fast yesterday morning, when the outside of the course proper was open. Portal, who is to race at Woodville on Friday, accompanied Submission in a spin over four furlongs which took them 51sec., Submission finishing two lengths ahead of her companion. Submission will not be seen out till the first day of the Wanganui meeting, claiming an engagement in the Juvenile Handicap. Dynasty, who is in the two-year-old event the second day at the Woodville meeting, slipped over three furlongs on his own in 37 2-ssec. March Easy, with M. Horne in the saddle, was sent six furlongs and took Imin. 20sec. without being extended. This Nightmarch lilly will be seen in action again at Wanganui and Bulls, and probably young Horne will have the mount.
After a four months’ spell at Koatanui, Rehearsal is back in work, but it remains to be seen whether he will stand up to a searching preparation. Homily is reported to be very sore after her sensational behaviour at the Egmont meeting, and as she is not engaged at Wanganui she may not be seen in action for some time. Probably the Trentham meeting will mark her earliest appearance.
