ANNUAL PICNIC
TAIHAPE RAILWAY EMPLOYEES | (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, Feb. 14. The annual picnic of the Taihape railway employees was held during the week-end at Ngaurukehu in ideal weather. There was a record attendance, and the train of 11 carriages was packed to capacity. In the afternoon a large number of settler’s from the surrounding district paid a visit to the ground, over 50 cars being present. The chairman and his committee are to be congratulated on the splendid manner in which the picnic was conducted. The Hon. F. Langstone M.P., and his family were present, and in a speech he thanked the chairman and the committee for their kind invitation to the picnic and added that he was very pleased that everyone was having such a wonderful time and he hoped that he would be able to attend again next year. The Hon. Mr. Langstone then presented B. Marchioni, the winner of the Railway Handicap with the Farmers’ Challenge Cup and hoped that Mr. Marchioni would be successful again next year. The chairman called for three hearty cheers for the Hon. M. Langstone, the appeal meeting with a wonderful response. A comprehensive programme was presented all the events being keenly contested. The Taihape Band was in attendance and contributed to the occasion with bright selections. Swimming was indulged in by many patrons in the Hautapu River. The committee comprised the following: Messrs. F. Christensen (chairman), A. Pratt (vice-chairman), W. W. Currie (secretary), T. Griffen (chairman sports committee), Organ (ice cream stall), A.
