SWIMMING
WANGANUI CENTRAL CLUB TO MORROW'S CARNIVAL THOMAS SHIELD AND TINGEY CUP P.acing for the Thomas Shield and the Tingey Cup will be features of the Wanganui Central Swimming Club's carnival to-morrow night, and these relay events should provide a splendid attraction for spectators. The Thomas Shield is a relay-race for teams of four men a-side, and Central will be defending the trophy with K. Welsh, A. Reeve, H. Brewer, and B. Haworth. The Tingey Cup is also held by the Central Club, the team to defend the trophy being K. Welsh, A. Reeve, H. Brewer, B. Haworth, K. Harrison, A. Kendall, E. Payne, W. Ansley, S. McKinley and T. Matthews. The Central Club will also have two teams competing in the Bonner Cup, the ladies’ relay race, as follows:--?. Watts, P. Nixon, P. Clayton and E. White; B. Coull, P. Gardner, M. Watts and Z. Chavannes. An attempt on the Wanganui district record for 50 yards will be made by K. Welsh, who shares the record of 26 2-ssec. with N. Dowsett. The programme to be presented by the Wanganui Central Club is a very attractive one and provided the weather is fine there should be a large attendance.
