BOTH “STANDING PAT”

NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA MEAT EXPORT REDUCTIONS DECLINED RESTRICTION ORDER ISSUED Received Feb. 12, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 10. The Herald says that as the result of the Australian and New Zealand refusal to agree to the suggested reduction in exports of mutton and lamb, Mr. Dorman Smith, Minister of Agriculture, intends to issue a restriction order over their heads. This is unprecedented in the Empire relations and likely to have far-reaching sequence. Australian and New Zealand are charging Britain with a flagrant breach of the Ottawa Agreement, for which reason Mr. Dorman Smith has no hope of any voluntary co-operation by the Dominion producers. Australia and New Zealand are “standing pat” on this issue because they expect similar demands relating to dairy produce.
