ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
♦ ANNUAL MEETING AT I’ATEA (Own Correspondent) PATEA, Feb. 13. Mr. E. F. Hemingway presided at the annual meeting of the Patea branch of the St, John Ambulance Association last week. A credit of £1 3s lOd was shown in the balance-sheet. The secretary reported that the year had been successful. Every football match had been attended. Eighty-six cases were handled on the field of play and nineteen privately. A successful concert had been held resulting in 16 9s 9d being added to the funds. Owing to unforeseen circumstances, members were unable to sit for examination although classes were well attended. Thanks were due to Dr. Simmons for interesting and instructive lectures. Four members visited Hawera for competition, gaining third place in spite of the fact that they had only been in action two weeks. The matter of a motor ambulance for the district had been enquired into and it was found that arrangements had been made for the use of the Wanganui Ambulance when required. The Wanganui centre wrote asking that the local sub-centre be registered. When members had sat for examination, registration would be effected stated the secretary. It was decided to hold classes on Monday nights. Election of officers resulted: Patron, Dr. W. T. Simmons; president, Mr. E. F. Hemingway; vice - presidents, Messrs. Ramsbottom, Muzio, Hopkins, and Lamb; committee. Rev. R. Patchett, Mr. McKarlick; hon. secretary, Mr. McGaughey. It was decided that a special effort be made to get as many new members as possible.
