SCOUT JAMBOREE

ROTARY CLUB ADDRESS WANGANUI COMMISSIONER The speaker at the Wanganui Rotary Club luncheon at Foster's Hotel yesterday was Mr. A. F. A. Woollams, Metropolitan Scout Commissioner, who spoke on the recent jamboree in New South Wales, which he attended. The Scout movement in New Zealand was well organised and it was represented by a splendid body of youth at the jamboree, said Mr. Woollams. A great impetus had been given to Scouting in Wanganui by having the Dominion Chief Commissioner here in the person of Mr. Hector Christie. Founded by Lord Baden-Powell 32 years ago. the Scout movement had spread throughout the world. It taught boys to be independent and self-reliant, and to be good citizens. The jamboree at Sydney had been attended by Scouts from more than 14 countries, and it had been a great success. The speaker mentioned sidelights of the trip across the Tasman on the Awatea and of the laying of a wreath at the Cenotaph on arrival at Sydney. Mr. Woollams will continue his talk next week.
