RANGITIKEI CRICKET (Own Correspondent) MARTON, Feb. 13. The Rangitikei Cricket Association held a committee meeting in the Jockey Ciub rooms this evening, Mr. H. F. Arkwright presiding. Present were P. F. Beechey, G. L. Marshall, R. Parkinson, J. Broad, D. McLennan, H. Marshall, R. Shield, H. Kimpton, D. Cameron, R. I. Church, M. V. Rix-Trot, R. P. Sherriff and F. Bailey. Apologies were received from R. Baker, G. Oliver, C. A. Tidy, A. B. Marshall and J. Openshaw. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council re score sheets of the Hawke Cup game held at Hawera.—The secretary advised that this had been attended to.
Concerning the Hunterville-Taihape Railway match postponed owing to the Hunterville sports. The meeting decided that Taihape should be allotted five points, as th ematch was equivalent to a forfeit. After discussion, it was decided that competition matches should be carried out a.s usual next Saturday. In spite of the representative match at Wanganui, the secretary was instructed to write to Mr. I.* Jolly asking him to represent the Taihape eleven at the association’s meeting. The ground committee was instructed to top-dress and re-sow the centre wicket on the County Ground. The date of the next meeting was fixed as March 20. MARTON ATHLETIC CLUB A meeting of the Marton Athletic Club was held this evening in the Jockey Club rooms. Present were C. C. McDonald (chairman), F. Harper, F. Wood, K. Atkinson, K. Wright, G. Thompson, I. Ross, T. Stafford, C. Henderson, S. Christopher and M. Atkinson. The business included arrangements re into-club meeting against Wanganui on February 21. The selection of the teams was left to the handicappers. It was decided that the junior cycling championships would be held at this meeting, the winners to receive ribbons. The chairman reported that an open meeting was to be held on March 1. The matter of inviting the Wellington team was left in the hands of Mr. Ross. The question of advertising over the air was left to Mr. K. Atkinson. The secretary advised that the subcentre championships had been abandoned and the centre championships would be held on the 25th at Wanganui. each club eligible to enter three competitors for each event. The meeting extended congratulations to Mr. C. C. McDonald on his appointment as referee at the centre championships. FITNESS WEEK At a meeting this evening the programme for Fitness Week in Marton was practically finalised as follows:—. Saturday, February 18: Bowling and tennis attractions, including special demonstrations on the Marton Club’s courts. Monday, February 20: Picture matinee at the Civic Theatre featuring health programme for children. Tuesday, February 21: Open athletic sports meeting on Marton Park in the evening. Wednesday, February 22: Marton District High School sports on the Park in the afternoon. Monster swimming carnival in the evening, competitors entering free. Thursday, February 23: Junction School sports in the school grounds. Friday. February 24: Swimming sports in Marton baths for local schools. Saturday, February 25: Displays in the Marton Park in the afternoon byMaori Girls’ College, Huntley Boys’ School. Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, Fire Brigade and St. John Ambulance. Cricket on the County Ground. Sunday, February 26: Combined church service in the Civic Theatre at 8 p.m.
