WAIMARINO SHIELD
RAETIHI v. OHAKI NE AT (ROQUET (Own Correspondent). RAETIHI, Feb. 12. On Wednesday at the Raetihi lawns the second match for the Waimarino Shield took place. In this competition four matches are played each season and the winners on points hold the shield until the following season or for so long as they are in the lead. Ohakune has held the shield for three years. The results are as follow, with Raetihi players being mentioned first:— Singles.—Mrs. Sandford 14, v. Mrs. Curran 26; Mrs. Stewart 26, v. Mrs. Bayne 6; Mrs. Ciochetto 19, v. Mrs. Bradshaw 26; Mrs. Marshall 26, v. Mrs. Lightband 5; Mrs. Thompson 15, v. Mrs. Bergenscrum 26; Mrs. Comer 26, v. Mrs. Kerr 23. Doubles. —Mesdames Sandford and Thompson 23, v. Mesdames Curran and Bergenstrum 26: Mesdames Stewart and Marshall 26. v. Mesdames Bayne and Lightband 25; Mesdames Ciochetto and Comer 22, v. Mesdames Bradshaw and Kerr 26. Raetihi obtained a load of eight points on the day’s play, but Ohakune still retains the shield by 31 points, with two matches to play. A dainty luncheon and aftenoon tea was provided by the Raetihi ladies and all had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
