FINE WEATHER FOR SERIES SOME GOOD MATCHES PLAYED (Own Correspondent) MARTON, Feb. 12. Fine weather prevailed for the continuation of the cricket series in Rangitikei. A feature was the defeat of Old Boys, the competition leaders, at the hands of Hunterville, who are well down on the ladder. Hunterville batted first, Hayward (21) and Tolley (44) being associated in a strong firstwicket partnership. Packard (29) also hit out freely. Low, bowling for Old Boys, finished with five wickets for 38. Old Boys, batting with two regular men short, could only reply with 86, Beechey (21) and Klitscher (23) being the best contributors. For Hunterville, Towers got the wickets, finishing with five for 42. On the other Marton wicket Taihape batted first. Revell (61) and P. Marshall (51) giving a brilliant display. First wicket down, Whittle (41), also helped Taihape to declare with 202 on the board for five wickets. Marton tried six bowlers. Shield getting best figures—two for 57. Marton, who can nearly always be relied upon participate in an exciting finish, managed to play out time with two wickets in hand. L. Smith (49) and H. Louden (37) were associated in a good second wicket stand. For Taihape Revell got three good Marton wickets at a cost of 14 runs. At Taihape Porewa went in first and, thanks to poor fielding, were able to run up 154 for the loss of five wickets. R. Parkinson (44) and H. Marshall (41) both gave easy chances which were not taken. Bardell was the best bowler with three for 18. Railway replied with 129, playing out time with two wickets in hand. They, too. gave chances which were not taken by Porewa. H. Marshall was in form with the ball, getting six Railway wickets for 49.
