BELGIAN CABINET

LIBERALS WITHDRAW RESIGNATION FOLLOWS Received Feb. 10, 5.5 p.m. BRUSSELS, Feb. 9. Cabinet has resigned as a result of the withdrawal of the support of the Liberals after the appointment of Dr. Martens to the Royal Flemish Academy.

A- cablegram from Brussels published on February 3 stated: Ex-ser-vicemen slightly hurt the Premier (M. Spaak) in the face during a demonstration against the Government. The demonstration followed the Government's appointment to the Royal Flemish Academy of Dr. Mertens, who was sentenced to death after the Great War for co-operation with the Germans. There were scenes in Parliament in consequence of the Government’s action, after which the Government received a vote of confidence by 88 votes to 86. There were seven abstentions.
