BIG FALL IN EXPORTS DOWN BY £8,337 000 FIGURES FOR 1938 [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. TY excess of exports over imports for 1938 was only £2,954,000, compared with £10,552,000 in 1937 and £12,493,000 in 1936. Overseas trade figures, supplied by the Customs Department, and expressed in terms of New Zealand currency, show that for the twelve months ended December, 1938. exports from New Zealand were valued at £58,376,000, as compared with £66,713,000 for the previous twelve months ended December, 1936. The drop in exports last year was £8.337,000. Imports in 1938 were valued at £55,422,000, as compared with £56,161,000 in 1937 and £44,259,000 in 1936. Exports during the month of December were valued at £3,728.000, as against £4.417,000 in December, 1937, and £4322,000 in December, 1936. During December, 1938, imports were valued at £4,765,000, compared with £4,608,000 the same month in 1937 and £4,295,000 in 1936. In December last there was an excess of imports over exports of £1,037,000. Specie exported during the twelve months ended December last was
valued at £31.805 (face valuei and imports at £31.274. During December exports of specie were valued at £18,305 and imports at £1357.
