VAST MODEL CITY

“MOSCOW IN THE MAKING” NEW BOOKS AT THE LIBRARY Included in the latest batch of books received at the Wanganui Public Library, “Moscow in the Making,” by Sir E. D. and Lady Simon and others, is a study in a class apart from the usual books about Soviet Russia. A vast model city is being built and the authors, anxious to see for themselves, decided to concentrate on subjects which had been their special study. They have presented an illuminating report full of comparisons with English conditions. At the end two questions are asked, “Is the Mossoviet efficient? Is it democratic?” “What Hitler Did to Us,” by Eva Lips, is the true story of one man who was victimised for his principles. Julius Lips was formerly the head of the Cologne Museum, a cultured man of non-Jewish ancestry, persecuted because he refused to subordinate his teaching to serve unworthy political ends. This book throws a sharp light on the technique of Nazi intrigue. The author writes simply and effectively. Albert Einstein, in an unsolicited letter states that in his opinion it is one of the best portrayals of conditions in Nazi Germany. Accessions for the week ending February 10, are:— Fiction.—“ Tell Death to Wait” (Anita Boutell); “Crooked Eclipse” (Edward Fitzgerald); “Sister Sanity” (Elliot Gray); “Anne Alone” (Owen Rutter); “Snake in the Grass” (Martin Armstrong); “Such Harmony” (Susan Goodyear); “Last Port of Call” (Henreich Hauser); “Learn to be a Lady” (Barbara Worsley-Gough). Non-fiction.—“ Democracy and Its Rivals” (Chris. Lloyd); “The Question and the Answer” (Hilaire Belloc); “Not Worth Reading” (Sir Geo. Arthur); “Moscow in the Making” (Sir E. D. Simon and others); “The Film of Memory” (Shane Leslie); “What Hitler Did to Us” (Eva Lips); “The Gold Missus” (Katherine FowlerLunn); “Air Attack on Cities” (J. T.
