Mr. E. J. Crotty, secretary of the Union Boat Club, and a member of the City Council staff, is a visitor to Picton.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Lowry, of Taihape, were visitors t'o Wanganui yesterday and were guests at Foster’s Hotel.
Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P., accompanied by Mrs. Gordon, were visitors to Wellington this week, Mr. Gordon attending the caucus of the National Party on Thursday.
The Rev. D. C. Herron, minister of Knox Church, Dunedin, is on his way to Einburgh. He will exchange pulpits with the Rev. J. H. Penman, of the North Merchiston Presbyterian Church of that city.
Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., officer commanding the Second Composite Infantry Battalion and the Taranaki Regiment, is visiting Waiouru for the annual camp of the battalion.
Messrs. W. E. Broderick (chairman), T. C. Kincaid and L. V. Kerby (managing-director) returned from New Plymouth yesterday after representing the Wanganui Hospital Board at the New Zealand Hospital Boards' Association conference.
Metropolitan Commissioner A. F. A. Woollams, of Wanganui, will be the speaker at Monday’s luncheon o£ the Wanganui Rotary Club. He will speak on the recent World Scout Jamboree at Sydney.
Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Director of School Hygiene, and formerly medical officer for the Wanganui Education Board, will be a visitor to Wanganui to-day to inspect the children s health camp at Gonville. Dr. ’Gunn was the organiser of the first health camps in New Zealand.
Mr. D. P. Sheppard having left the staff of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Cooperative Association Ltd., Masterton, Mr. R. H. Brewerton has been appointed to take charge of the produce acid stock food department:. Recently the staff presented Mr. Sheppard with a gold fountain pen and pencil.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Warnes, Greymouth, left Wellington by yesterday's Limited express for Auckland, where they will embark in the Rimutaka tor London. They intend visiting various centres in the British Isles and on the Continent, and will return to New Zealand before the end of the year.
Mr. H. R. Sharpe, of St. John’s Hill, a former New Zealand champion oarsman, and Mr. Alex Webster, of Fordell, formerly secretary of the Wanganui Rowing Association, are travelling to Blenheim by air to-day to attend the rowing championships at Picton. They will return to Wanganui to-morrow.
Mr. E. P. Norman, town clerk of Wellington, left Auckland by the Mariposa on Monday on a visit to the United States of America. He was accompanied by Mrs. Norman. It is understood that Mr. and Mrs. Norman will confine their visit to the Pacific Coast and will return to New Zealand in a little more than two months’ time. One of the objects of Mr. Norman’s visit to California is to see the exhibition which has been built on a man-made island in the centre of San Francisco harbour. In his absence his duties are being carried out by Mr. M. S. Duckworth, deputy town clerk.
