NOLAN HACK CUP

Race Has Good Field SECOND DAY AT HAWERA PROSPECTS REIEWED A field of twelve figures in the acceptance list for the Nolan Hack Cup, the nine-furlong hack trophy event to be run to-day at Haw era, when the Egniont. Racing Club s summer meeting will be concluded. This should be one of the outstanding items on the programme, especially as there is a trophy valued at £6u attached to the winner s share of the stake. Another trophy event is the Tonks States, and in this there are seven acceptors, including the first-day winner, Dungarvan. The meeting should conclude on a happy note, tor the weather promises to keep fine and the Saturday holiday crowd should be larger than on Tnursday. Thus the totalisatot increase of over £4OOO should be maintained, with profit to the club. Red Sun put up such a good display in Thursdays hurdle race that he should be prominent in the Okaiawa Hurdles to-day, but Ohanga who was an absentee the first day, may hold the topweight safe. The tield for the open sprint, the Waimate Handicap, is much the same as that seen out the first da,,, and Amigo should make amends his run is delayed a little longer than in the Flying Handicap. Race Call and Taitoru appear to be hi? toughest opponents. First-day form points to several having cnances in the Meremere Hack Handicap, Amoroso, Mischel, and Tidal Gitt making appeal, thougn Baron Bold, a winner at Opunaxe, may surprise. Judgment may be reserved lor the Electric Handicap The presence of Deficit, a Wanganui Guineas winner, is an intriguing feature. Dungarvan has gone up 131 b. tv topweight in the Tonks brakes, but he is a class horse. Rustem is in form, lor he beat all but the w inner in me Egmont Cup. I—ady burst would have to be fully as goou as her reputation claimed to give Homily weight, and the latter snould again finisn in front of the Hawke's Hay filly. Neo Cuttie appears a likely improver, but backers are not likely to go past the first-day leaders, Dun garvan and Rustem. The problem presented in the Elec trie Handicap is to decide which is likely to be best of three reccm i *.».nnec Footloose, judgment and Eaav Boden, ana as me last-named just got home on Thursday the vote I may ue for Judgment and Footloose. The Nolan Hack Cup field is a! good even one. Namara nad no difficulty in winning over six furlongs: on Thursday, and fi.b may not stop ] this good ’ three-year-olu. Golden Ridge is a staying hack, as he won the Eadies' Brace.et (nine furlongs' ; at Marton and neat all but Front . Quality in a ten-furlong highweignt , at Trentham. Nereus is well up to ' form and was only narrowly beaten j on Thursday. Amatory, third in this , event last year, when it was run on the opening day, has made good in , the meantime and snould be well in I the picture. Earl Colossus and toastern Heir are consistent, and Dan. Eagle impressed by his line finishing run on tne opening day. A win for any ot the otners would surprise, and one comes back to Nereus, Amatory and Golden Ridge. Liekem will lend variety io tne Normanby Handicap field, but the, issue may again oe between Red Sand and Airing. To or three scratchings may icduce the fnaha Hack field to nine or ten, but good races may be expected from war Lap, Disturbed and Earl Colossus in tne probable ahsencc of Amatory. The following may be in demand in their respective engagements:— Okaiawa Hurdles.—Ohanga, Red Sun. W aimale Handicap.--Amigo, rtae. Cail, laitoiu. Meremere Hack Handicap. 1 lual Gift, Amoroso, Mischel. Tonks Stakes. - Dungarvan, Rustem. Electric Handicap. Judgment. Footloose, Lady BodenNolan Hack Cup.—Nereus, Amatory, Golden Ridge.
