MALE NURSES WANGANUI SUGGESTION WIDE FIELD OF WORK. That there were already five male nurses in the Auckland hospital was explained by a delegate when a remit from the Wanganui Hospital Board suggesting the desirability of introducing male nurses for certain work was introduced at the conference. There was a hospital in Australia with 700 beds, where the nursing on the male side was done by men, said Dr. W. Reeve (Hawke’s Bay). They had several male nurses, some of whom they had trained themselves, said Dr. J. W. Craven, Auckland. The Registration Board had discussed the matter of training male nurses, said Dr. R. A. Shore, who added that it was recognised that there was a wide field in which these men could work. He would be pleased to discuss the matter with the executive. The remit, together with one from the Hawke’s Bay board asking the conference to consider the possibility of training malnurses for auxiliary service in all general hospitals, was refeired to the executive to take up with the department.
