HITHER AND THITHER
Pre-Wedding Party. Mesdames H. G. Birch and J. G. Alexander, Maxwell, were hostesses recently at a party given for Miss Jean Parsons, Waitotara, who is to be a February bride. The guests enjoyed tennis and competitions, followed by a picnic afternoon tea near the swimming pool at Birch Park. Card Evening.
Mrs. G. Perrett and her mother, Mrs. Hodder, who are shortly leaving for Australia, were the guests of honour at a card evening given by Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Snelling “Bon Accord,” Wanganui East. There were 30 people present and progressive “500” was played. After a dainty supper had been served Mr. Snelling, on behalf of those present, presented Mrs. Perrett and Mrs. Hodder with a small gift and wished them both a pleasant journey. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” First prizes were won by Mrs. Perrett and Mrs. Whiteman, and consolation prizes by Miss Ryan and Mr. Whiteman. Tennis Club Members Entertained. An enjoyable evening was spent by members of the Wanganui East Tennis Club and friends on Wednesday night when they gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Laird, No. 3 Line, to take part in cards, competitions and community singing. The hostess received her guests wearing a powder blue lace frock. A dainty supper was served following a “500” session. After the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and musical honours for the hostess, Mrs. Laird expressed her pleasure in meeting so many club members and friends in a happy social hour. The competition winners were Mr. and Mrs. W. Bracks, Mrs. H. Mackay, Miss E. Paul. For the community singing the music was provided by Mrs. Mackay, Miss E. McKernan and Mr. A. Christie. Garden Party. A well attended garden party held under the auspices of the Ladies’ Guild of St. Alban’s Methodist Church, Wanganui East, took place in the grounds of Mrs. Hogg’s home, Boydiield St., Wanganui East. The grounds were in splendid condition and there were the usual stalls, games and competitions. Deck tennis and skittle croquet were popular. Chaplain Fraser made the highest score at croquet and gained the prize. The Rev. J. F. Martin and Mrs. Martin welcomed the visitors and later in
1 the afternoon thanked Mrs. Hogg for ' the use of her beautiful home and grounds and the privilege of inspectL ing a large collection of paintings, the work of the hostess. A collection in aid of the guild funds, added to the takings of the games and stalls, mad a very tine contribution to the work of the Ladies’ Guild. Mr. Hogg replied on behalf of Mrs. Hogg and | thanked those present for their atI tendance.
