Mrs. Evelyn Buckrell, Hawera, has been on a short visit to Wanganui. Mrs. P. Strachan. Wanganui, was a recent visitor to Stratford as the guest of Mrs. R. Strachan. An English visitor to Wanganui is Miss O. E. Orton, whose home is in Surrey. Miss Mollie Mitchell, Wellington, is on holiday and is staying with her parents in Somme Parade. • Mrs. S. G. Atkinson, who has been the guest of Mrs. J. B. Meads, Westmere, has returned to Wellington. * ¥ * * Miss Peggy Aitken, New Flymouth, is visiting Wanganui, and is slaying with Mrs. J. Aitken. Miss Redpatli. Christchurch, who has been visiting Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Anderson, Wicksteed Street, has gone on to Wellington. Miss Faith Stevens, L.R.S.M., who has been the guest of Miss Lily Adams. Smithfield Road, has returned to her home in Hastings. Mr. and Mrs. McL. Blair (Maxwell) motored through to Wellington during the week-end to take Miss Margaret. to Queen Margaret College.
Mrs. J. Colway, who has been staying in Wanganui for several months, left this week for Hamilton to spend a few days with her daughter, Mrs. J. Burns, before going on to North Auckland to reside for a time.
For the first time in history, a woman is to hold the post of chairman of the London County Council. She is Mrs. Evelyn M. Lowe and she will take over her duties in March. Mrs. Lowe has many interests, has represented many organisations and held posts on several committees. Since 1934 she had held a seat upon the Court of the University of London.
After spending a year in England under the exchange system of the League of the Empire, three New Zealand school teachers returned to the Dominion by the Oronsay last week. They were Miss Ruth Sheat, French mistress at Nelson Girls’ College: Miss S. C. Ferrier, of Methven, Canterbury; and Miss N. M. Glover, of Wellington. Miss Megan Taylor, the world champion figure skater, who competed in the European championships in London on January 23 and 24, is to visit New Zealand in the course of her Empire tour. She will leave England for South Africa in March, and will visit Australia before continuing to New Zealand. No details are available yet of her expected arrival in New Zealand, but it is likely that she may arrive during May.
