SWIMMING

WANGANUI CENTRE SIX RECORDS BROKEN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS Six records were lowered at the first night of the Wanganui Swimming Centre's annual district championships I in the St. George's Gate baths last ■ night. Conditions were good and the i races were watched by a large crowd | of spectators. Entries were poor and in five events there were only one starter and in several others only two. Close finishes were the order of the night. H. Da\is (Gonville), who represented Wanganui at the recent junior and intermediate championships at Rotorua, lowered the records for the 50 yards junior boys and the 220 junior boys. In lhe latter event he lowered his own record by 15 2-ssecs. ' and in doing so did not appear to be exerting himself. Others who lowered records were Miss P. Watts (50 yards intermediate girls' backstroke), R. McKillop (100 yards men’s breaststroke), Miss P. Cave (75 yards girls' intermediate breaststroke), and K. Welsh (100 yards men's backstroke). Results were as follow:
