WELFARE OF ABORIGINES
FEDERAL NATIVE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT AIM TO RAISE STATUS FOR CITIZENSHIP HOBART, Feb. 9. A new policy for the control ol aborigines is to be adopted by the Federal Cabinet. The scheme will hinge on the creation of a Native Affairs Department on the lines o£ New Guinea and Papuan practices, under the control of a director. The object of the new policy to to raise the status of aborigines to qualify them to accept the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
