STANLEY McKAY’S NEW “GAIETIES”

VAUDEVILLE FOR THE OPERA HOUSE Lovers of vaudeville of a few decades ago will remember the great Cinquevalli, the world’s greatest juggler, and will be pleased to know that his recognised successor, George Hurd, is to appear with Stanley McKay’s “Gaieties” vaudeville and revue company at the Opera House, Wanganui, during the three nights and a matinee season opening on Wednesday, February 15. To mention Cinquevalli and

■ George Hurd in the same breath may seem exaggeration, but when one has witnessed the marvellous feats of the . latter artist the statement will not be . questioned. George Hurd’s skill in the art of balance is uncanny, and it is little wonder that the Christchurch morning paper, the Press, describes him as a marvel. He is only one of the many excellent performers that Mr. McKay has been fortunate in securing for his 1939 tour of the Dominion. The comedy,' always a big item in the “Gaieties” entertainments, is entrusted to Stan Foley. Australia's young and versatile comedian, who is equally at home in evening dress offerings as in slapstick comedy. Another fine comedian is Alec McKinnon, probably the best national dancer to visit Wanganui. Then there are the San Renos Bros., amazing hand balancers; Nellie Kollo, male impersonator; Stella Lamond, talented personality girl; Barry Ross, baritone; Stella Collier, soprano; Max Reddy, light comedian; Assam, Rekoe, Souchen and Congo, crazy clowns; and Snowy Towers and Jerry Keogh, acrobatic dancers. Features of each production of the "Gaieties” are the SunKissed Ballet; May Brooke's Orchestra, and Scotty and Doily, Australia’s premier dancing duo. A matinee is to be given on Friday at 3.15 p.m. and seats may be received without extra charge at Dobb Bros’.
