REBUFF TO MR. SAVAGE

STATEMENT INOPPORTUNE I TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA Received Feb. 8, 6.50 p.m. HOBART, Feb. 8. Commenting on reports that the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, had expressec a willingness to lift the Dominion's embargo on Australia citrus fruits if the Commonwealth allowed in New Zealand potatoes, Mr. J. A. Lyons said: “The time is inopportune for J Mr. Savage to make such a statement. Australia always has been willing to discuss trading arrangements with New Zealand but Mr. Savage and his Government have imposed drastic restrictions on imports from Australia.”
