TENNIS. During tlie absence of the Taihape Club's A team at Raetihi during tne week-end, the Railway Club played a match with the B team on the town club’s courts. The issue was in doubt until the final match of the day, when a victory by Mesdames George and Atkins, of the Railway Club, over Messrs. Fookes and Hollings gave the verdict to Railway by 12 sets to 11.
Results are as follow, (Taihape Club names being mentioned first): — Men’s Singles.—Little lost to Edwards, 4-9; Graham beat Gordon, 9-2; Hewetson lost to Atkins, 2-9; Hill beat Rowler, 9-4; Skeat lost to Taylor, 3-9; Hawkins beat Parkin, 9-4; G. Siddle beat Squire, 9-2; L. Siddle beat Lilley, 9-2. Men's Doubles.—Little and Graham beat Edwards and Atkins, 6-3; Hewetson and Hill beat Gordon and Rowley, 6-3; Skeat and Hawkins lost to Taylor and Parkin, 3-6; G. and L. Siddle beat Squire and Lilley, 6-1. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Fookes lost to Mrs. George, 1-6; Miss Hollings lost to Mrs. Atkins, 3-6; Miss Dewhirst lost to Mrs. Coombes, 1-6; Mrs. Lelievre lost to Miss Wilsher, 0-6; Mrs. Graham beat Mrs. Grillin, 6-1.
Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Fookes and Hollings lost to Mesdames George and Atkins, 5-7; Mrs. Lelievre and Miss Dewhirst lost to Mrs. Coombes and Miss Wilsher, 1-6.
Combined Doubles.—Little and Miss Dewhirst beat Edwards and Mrs. George, 6-5; Graham and Mrs. Graham beat Gordon and Miss Wilsher, 6-4; Hewetson and Miss Fookes lost to Atkins and Mrs. Atkins, 5-6; Hill and Mrs. Lelievre lost to Rowley and Mrs. Coombes, 5-6; Skeat and Miss Hollings beat Taylor and Mrs Griffin, 6-3. Taihape Club: 11 sets, 120 games. Railway Club: 12 sets, 116 games. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. On Thursday evening about 50 guests assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. Anderton, Pukeokahu, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their second daughter, Sybil. The entertainment of the guests was in the capable hands of Miss Joyce Anderton and her brothers and dancing, games and competitions fully occupied the attention of all present. Mrs. Anderton's well-known hospitality was highly appreciated. After supper. Mr. Beuck, in a happy speech, congratulated Miss Sybil on attaining her majority and her health was then enthusiastically proposed and drunk with musical honours. Miss Sybil very suitably replied and thanked her guests for the many useful and beautiful presents she had received.
PERSONAL Misses Priscilla McKenzie and Dorothy Dobson, of Taihape, and Sybil Reid, of Mangaweka, left on Monday morning for Christchurch to enter the Teachers’ Training College. Mr. M. L. King, Taihape, left last week to attend the Teachers’ Training College at Christchurch. Miss M. Durrant, of Taoroa, and Miss B. Fitzherbert, of Taihape, left for Auckland on the express on Monday evening. Captain L. W. Andrews, V.C., will visit the military camp at Waiouru this week. Mr. R. W. Culpitt, formerly manager of the Majestic cinema at Taihape, is visiting Taihape.
