MANGAWEKA PERSONALS

(Own Correspondent) MANGAWEKA, Feb. 7. Miss Sybil Reid leaves for Christchurch to-day,’ where she will enter the Teachers’ Training College. Miss D. Howard has returned from her holidays spent in the South Island. The Rev. C. Webster has returned from a holiday spent at Tauranga. Miss K. Graham has returned to Wellington. Miss M. Brock, who has been the guest of Mrs. G. A. Bailey, Kawhatau, has now returned to Wanganui. Miss N. Mahoney has returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. Mrs. S. Knight and Miss V. Knight are visiting Mrs. S. Knight at Apiti. Mrs. S. McLeod is spending a holiday in Auckland. RED CROSS MEETING A very enthusiastic meeting was held in the Rest Room on Thursday evening, the object being to form a branch of the Red Cross Society. Mr. A. Millner, chairman of the Mangaweka Town Board, occupied the chair. Mr. I. Bridger addressed the meeting and gave a most interesting resume of the society from its infancy to the activities of the present day. It was decided to form a branch, Mesdames Mackay, Turnbull and D. Barrell and Rev. MacCullum, who have had previous experience, offering their services for the training that is essential to form a branch.

The following officers were elected, those present to form a general committee: Patron, Mr. W. N. Watson (subject to consent); president, Rev. MacCullum; vice-presidents, Mesdames Mackay, Turnbull, Pairman and L. G. P. Mahoney; secretary, Mrs. M. Sutherland; nursing committee, Mesdames D. Barrell, Mackay, Turnbull, F. Pederson, D. Campbell and Miss Crawford; executive committee, Messrs. G. Salt, A. Lewis, L. G. P. Mahoney, Mesdames G. Salt, T. Pairman, D. Barrell and Miss Crawford. The meeting was closed with a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Millner, convener of the meeting.
