U.S. CLAIM DISPUTED
LAND IN ANTARCTIC SAID TO BE AUSTRALIAN SECTOR. Received Feb. 7, 5.5 p.m. CANBERRA, Feb. 7. The reported annexation for the United States of 81,000 square miles of land in the Australian Antarctic sector north of Princess Elizabeth Land by Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth is disputed by Federal officials, who stated that Australia has definitely claimed sovereignty over the area. It is claimed that the land was discovered by the expedition led by Sir Douglas Mawson in 1928, and forms part of the Australian sector.
