I CANDIDATES FOR HAWERA YESTERDAYS GALLOPS Several Wanganui horses engaged at the Hawera meeting to-morrow and Saturday were given then- final gallops yesterday under excellent weather conditions. The last woik was done on the course proper, which was in excellent order. Rayner's Egmont Cup candidate, Homily (F. Latham) was associated with Entail <W. Rayner) in an effort over six furlongs, registering Imin. 17sec. They ran the initial quarter in a tick under 25sec. and "broke 50sec. for the four furlongs. Entaii, who was going nicely all the way, finished slightly in front of his companion, who is generally a rather lazy track worker. Both Entail and Homily will be ridden by R. McTavish in their Egmont engagements to-morrow. \

Darthura finished a length and analf in front of Portal at the end of four furlongs which took them 51scc., the first quarter taking them 24 3-ssee. Darthura was ridden by F. Latham and M. Horne was on Portal. Darthura is engaged at Hawera and Portal will make his next appearance at Woodville next week. Submission, who is engaged in the Juvenile Handicap at Wanganui, slipped over four furlongs in JU 13-ssec. M. Horne was in the saddle. The Myosotis gelding The Tryst went four furlongs niceiy in a tick under 51sec. He snaped well and the racing experience he will get in the Juvenile Handicap at Hawera should prove beneficial.
