STREET BEGGING
MAGISTRATE DECIDES QUESTIONMAN WHO ASKED FOR LOAN [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. The question as to whether asking a man in the street for a loan constitutes begging was decided by Mr. Luxford. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court when a defendant pleaded not guilty to being idle and disorderly, in that he placed himself in a public place for the purpose of begging alms. After evidence was heard, the case was dismissed. A constable stated that he saw accused accosting men in the street and a young man said accused had stopped him and asked him for a loan of ss.
