Protection of Seals. “I think the Government should look into the position of the sealing industry,” said Mr. F. H. W. Traill, of Stewart Island, in an address at Dunedin. As the islands in that region were not policed like they were in the old days—it was many years since the Matai had been round—there was nothing to stop the Japanese from sailing down and cleaning out all the seals. They could visit the small islands, he said, and Nobody would bel aware of their presence.
