WANGANUI SAILING CLUB WEEK-END RACE RESULTS. Three races were held by the Wanganui Sailing Club during the weekend, with the following results:— Studholme Cup.—Spray (9min.) 1, Aloha (7min.) 2, Merlin (scr.) 3. Also started: Valeta, Albatross, Whitewings, Rainbow, Valerie a<nd Avalon. Idlealong Class Handicap.—Whitewings (7min.) 1, Merlin (scr.) 2, Albatross (9min.) 3. Also started: Rainbow. * Takapuna Class Handicap.—Aloha (Imin.) 1, Spray (scr.) 2, Valerie (Imin.) 3. Also started: Valeta.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT AT AUCKLAND HOLDER TO DEFEND TITLE In addition to New Zealand 18ft. sailing championship, to be held at Auckland this month, the world's sailing championship will also be decided. The following letter has been received by the Wanganui Sailing Club from the secretary of the New Zealand Inter-Dominion Yacht Racing Committee and was circulated to all sailing clubs: — “Further to my letter of October last referring to the N.Z. 18ft. sailing championship races in February, 1 have to advise you that all arrangements have now been made for the holding of the world’s sailing championship at the same time. The world’s championship trophy is now in Auckland and is on view in the Provincial War Memorial Museum.
“Mr. Schahell the present holder of the world’s title has announced his intention of defending the title on the Waitemata with his yacht ‘Taree,’ and he will arrive in New Zealand early in February. In all some 50 overseas yachtmen will be competing. “There will be a series of three races for the championship, which is allotted on points and the races will be held on Wednesday, February 15. Saturday and Monday, February 18 and 20, starting at 3 p.m. each day.
Yachts may be nominated by any recognised Yacht Club and such clubs may enter one or more boats. By recognised Yacht Clubs I do not necessarily mean clubs whose names appear on the published list of recognised Yacht Clubs, any Yachting, Sailing or Boating Club Association, or committee that is publicly recognised in its own district may enter a boat or boats.
"The entrance fee is £5 ss'per boat, and nominations close with the undersigned at the above address on Monday, February 6. Even if‘you do not decide to enter a boat for the contests my committee will be delighted to see as many of your members as possible present on the event. Full particulars of excursion trains, etc., will be obtainable from the nearest stationmaster and will be broadcast from the main radio stations. “If you are intending to enter a boat I would be obliged if you win let me know provisionally by return or at your earliest so that I can arrange for billeting the crew and for hauling out skids, etc., for your boat. “Also please let me have the name and address of the officer who will be officially representing your organisation—whether you decide to compete or not—so that I may send him tickets for the Citizens’ Ball. President’s dinner and other social functions that are to be held in conjunction with the event.”
