Whatmough and Wakeling made some splendid outfield catches, and the basemen were snappy. The base running was not up to the usual standard, and can be considerably improved. The batting also needs attention, late batting being much in evidence last Saturday. Fanning, however, was batting well, and gave a polished exhibition. Phillips, too, was in form and came to light with a sparkling “homer.” Rather scrappy play was seen in the Star B game, and through lack of practice, there was little combination between the players. There was some good individual play, Hodder playing a good game as catcher. Rule, at first base, and Reardon, at second base, also played well. Hean made some good outfield catches.

A scratch team made up of A and B men played against Eastbourne, at Wellington, on Anniversary Day. The boys could not get going properly, and were beaten 14 to 4, although the game was really closer than the score indicated. An innovation was the inclusion of A. C. Bensel in the team. He played a faultless game as catcher and also batted well. Tasker played a good game. The boys were complimented by Wellington officials on their clean play.
