PLENTY OF FISH
CAUGHT IN WAIKATO RIVER AN ANGLER’S PARADISE No doubt large numbers of disciples of Izaak Walton are packing their gear in preparation for a descent over the holidays on the numerous fishing spots throughout the Dominion, and they will be delighted to find that there is every prospect of an excellent season. A report to gladdon the hearts of all anglers comes from a well-known Wanganui angler (Mr R. E. Cuthbertson), who returned yesterday from a motor trip up north. Mr Cuthbertson, fishing in the Waikato River, below the Aratiatia Rapids, in four days landed 42 trout, his best onc-day catch totalling 16. The heaviest fish scaled 131 b., and the average weight of the whole catch was s|lb* This result will take a lot of beating, but no doubt every angler will set out in the hopes of being able to do so. Mr Cuthbertson considers that splendid sport will be obtainable during the next few weeks, so that his success will fill with optimism those who intend to try gtheir hand in the near future.
