WANGANUI PROFESSIONAL CLUB SATURDAY’S DISTANCE EVENT The two mile track race held tm Saturday evening resulted in a win for R. Davis (scr.) by half a wheel from R. Macey (140yds.) with W. Taylor half a length back third. Time 4min. 39scc. The riders from the 110 yards mark were bunched, and after the first lap took turns in pacing, setting a solid pace. Davis and Smith, from scratch, by means of unselfish riding gradually overhauled the field, both being up in the seventh lap. It was anyone’s race at tho .bell, and Macey produced a great sprint down tho back straight, with Davis on his wheel. The latter made a great effort a few lengths from the line, just getting the verdict by half a wheel. The remainder of the riders were close up and wore bunched together at the end. Next Saturday evening at 6.30 o’clock, the club will hold a mile-and-a-half handicap. In .conjunction with the visit of the Ponsonby Boys’ Band on December 30, the club will put on a programme of cycling events.
