UNGENTLEMANLY CONDUCT
WANGANUI’S LOOSE YOUTHS TWO MISS BIG THRASHING. As a city Wanganui has always been proud to lay claim to the flact that its young men are well mannered and gentlemanly in their conduct on the streets. Unfortunately there are many young men who are doing their best to upset this reputation, and no better example could be drawn attention to thlan an incident which occurred late on Saturday afternoon. Two youths, who had imbibed freely, were wandering up Victoria Avenue, one pushing, or attempting to push, a bicycle. In itself this would not have mattered, but the young men ordered everyone out of their road and used vile language. In their zigzagging trip up the Avenue the besotted ones passed one of New Zealand’s leading boxers in flannels, and they promptly told him to get out of the road. A bright glint of the eye and a tightening of the fists probably mtade the two unsteady ones sober up a little. This sort of occurrence does not help to keep up the reputation of Wanganui.
