OHAKUNE
BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Thursday evening. An application from the Caledonian Society for permission to charge for admission to Rochfort Park Domain on New Year’s Day was granted. The Ponsonby Brass Band wrote stating that Ohakune would be’ visited by the band on January 6th, and asked permission to use the band rotunda —Granted. The Department of Crown Lands wrote re lands vested in the Borough, not rated.—Referred to the Valu“>General, who would be asked to check the valuation roll. The proprietors of the two picture • theatres forwarded returns of Sunday: pictures for the' month, both of which showed a debit balance. Mr Thomson ! reported that he was forwarding the proceeds of Sunday pictures for the past two months, amounting to £1 16s to the Plunket Society.—Received. j With regard to a letter signed by several Junction residents requesting that certain improvements he made io footpath in lower Miro Street he nn.k : it was agreed that a to sent stat-i ing that the Council cannot see its way ■ to carry out the work at present. , Tn accordance with the report of the | Works Committee it was decided that i the application of Mrs Al. The Electric Light Committee recom- . mended that a street lamp be placed: at the intersection of Egmont and Rua- I pohu Streets; that the Engineer be in-; strueted to carry out the work requir- j ed by the Public Works inspector; that j the' electrical engineer of Ihe Raetihi Borough Council he approached with a * view to ascertaining if that Borough would join Ohakune in the purchase of an earth-testing set.—The report was adopted. A committee was appointed, consisting of the’ chairmen of the Finance and Lighting Committees and the Mayor and Or. Jones, to consider the purchase of a truck, and report to a special meeting of the Council.
