The following will represent Railway: Men: G. Wilsher, 8. Berwick, Gamby, Griffin, Clist, and Holmes. Ladies: Mesdames Wilsher. Holmes, Barrowman and Gamby. The Tainape club 's representatives will be: —Men: Reed, Henricks. Reece, Lelievre, Darvill, smith. ’ Ladies: Misses H. Wapp, H. Gardner, iJ. Gamby, V. Satherley. i On Thursday afternoon Mrs Moore : (8) defeated Mrs Reid (25). 60 —55, for the final of the ladies’ handicap singles. BOWLING I The weather on Thursday was ideal for bowling. The green played fast and true, and some interesting games were played. The main attraction of the afternoon was the fight for the Rangitikei Shield between Ohakune and Taihape (holders), the progress of ■ which was watched with keen interest by every bowler on the green. The <’lub Fathers match resulted in a hol- ; low victory for the holders, the chalJ iengers under Howens being decisively beaten by 26 to. 11. The spurs match I also provided an easy win for Eaton and his men by 34 to 11. Following are details of the afternoon’s games: — Glenny, Hay, Mitchell, Cherry 9 v. IJ. Smith, Ross, Young, Joblin 24. ■ Feathers.—F. Read, S. Reid, Loader, Ward 26 v. Bond. Armstrong, ClaringI bold. Howens (11). ■ Stars. —F. Smith. C. Bartram, O ’Neill, Eaton (34). v. Rangitikei Shield. : Ohakune was the challenging club I for this shield, the game for which was I played on Thursday afternoon. Last • week Raetihi failed to lift the trophy, 1 but Ohakune gave the local bowlers i something of a fright, by just failing to win by four points. The game was 'in doubt right up to the last bowl. Bandy and Eaton finished a few min- • utes before the other rink. Taihape being four in the lead. Meanwhile a 1 dogged finish was being fought out between James and Thomasson. At the conclusion of the match, Mr Eaton (Ohakune) congratulated the local players on their win and thanked ; the club for its hospitality. Messrs I Loader. Bandy and James, of the local | club, complimented the Ohakune men ■ on the gallant fight they had put up, and the line sporting spirit they had I displayed. GENERAL NEWS The weekly tournament in connec- ' tion with the Railway Tennis Club was held on Tuesday evening, when there • was a good attendance of players. The ‘contest for the ladies’ first prize resulted in a tie between Misses Bailey and E. Fleet, the play-off resulting in a win for Miss Fleet. Air H. Eaton won the gentlemen's prize, the consolation prizes going to Mrs Powell and Air Wlallace. A dance was held after the card party, to music supplied by Air Parker, while Mr G. Wilsher acted as Af.C. A dainty supper was provided , under the supervision of Mesdames Wilsher, Barrowman, Gamby, Harrington and Griffin.
