TURAKINA HEALTH CAMP
EDUCATION BOARD VISIT MEMBERS EXPRESS SATISFACTION. A visit was paid yesterday to the Turakina Health Camp by members of the Wanganui Education Board. A thorough inspection was made of the camp, and great satisfaction was expressed by the visitors at the arrangements and improvements. Later the Board members were the guests of Mr and Mrs B. P. Lethbridge. Mr H. Mclntyre, in the absence of the chairman (Mr W. A. Collins) took the opportunity to thank Mr and Mrs Lethbridge for their wonderful consideration for the children which had made the camp possible. He referred to the open-heartedness of Mr Lethbridge, whose genuine love for children had led him to open his hospitable doors, thus making the Health Camp permanent. Mr Mclntyre voiced . his appreciation of Dr. Elizabeth Gunn’s services and mentioned her capabilities. He applauded her patience and untiring zeal in her work with under-developed children. Air Lethbridge, in a modest reply, emphasised the need for more consideration for children by adults. He maintained that the improving of the children’s health was sufficient thanks. Dr. Gunn, in her reply, while thanking previous speakers for their kind remarks, thanked her staff and referred to the invaluable assistance rendered by the students of the Wellington Teachers’ Training College. She stated that these students assisted in all camp work as well as the teaching, and most of them had given a fortnight of their annual leave to assist. Proceedings terminated with cheers for Mr and Mrs Lethbridge, Dr. Gunn and her staff. The Mavor of New Plymouth (Mr F. F. Wilson), Mr S. G. Smith (chairman) and Mr C. H. Moore (architect), of the Taranaki Education Board, with Mr R. Masters, visited the camp pn Wednesday. The visitors expressed themselves as delighted with the camp and its surroundings. Messrs Wilson and Masters then spoke, wishing the children the best of health and a very happy Christmas. The latter referred in glowing terms to the successful organisation of Dr. Elizabeth Gunn.
