TROTTING

WELLINGTON MEETING CUP TO PETER EINGEN. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. There was a good attendance for the first day of the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting and splendid weather prevailed. There was good trotting and some exciting finishes were seen. The totalisator handled £16,334, which was less than last year, but then only a oneday meeting was held, whereas a second day’s trotting will be held on Saturday. The New Zealand Gold Cup attracted a classy field and the event was won by a Christchurch horse, Mr G. S. Simpson’s Peter Bingen, trained by J. J. Kennerley. In the Electric Handicap, won by Grant and Winter’s Black Admiral, trained by M. B. Edwards, of Christchurch, some splendid trotting was witnessed, rousing the spectators to enthusiasm, liesuits:— Novice Handicap.—3 Great Earl (W. Warren) 1,2 Roamer 2, 8 Maud Logyn 3. Eight lengths; two lengths. Time, 3.36 4-5.
