MR. T. B. WILLIAMS AT EASTOWN.
A very good attendance acre^'-cd. Mr. Williams at Eastown last night, a considerable number of ladies Wing, present. Mr. Neilson took the chair, and briefly introduced the candidate, whom, "ho sbated, he had known for many years. Mr. Williams, after touching upon most matters as before, said he advocated the acquisition by the Government of the up-river steamers, paying' a fair and equitable compensation. He thought ?4 system of compulsory voting should be adopted, with electoral rights being issued, returnable in, _ say, sevon days. After a very appreciable hearing, ho concluded his address. In reply to questions, he said:—(l) That ho thought • a grant should be made to Catholic schools, but as the matter must emanate from the Government, no private member had power to propose it. (2) No arrangement had been come to at the interview with the Premier that afternoon.
