SUPPOSED INCENDIARISM.
AUCKLAND, November 7. An inquest was held to-day into the circumstances surrounding a fire which occurred upon the premises of Mrs. R. Y. Garrett, milliner, and H. Jackson, tobacconist, at Otahuhu, upon the 7th of October. The evidence was to the effect that the places, which were separated by an alleyway 8 feet wide, were set on fire simultaneously, and that kerosene had been-used in both places. It caught fire upon, the corners of the building facing the alleyway. According to two persons who witnessed and who discovered and suppressed the flames, Mr. Garrett appeared upon the scene two minutes after the alarm was given, fully dressed.,; Mr. Garrett, however, denied this. The places were not much damaged, anl Garrett's stock was insured for £100. A verdict that the places were wilfully set on fire was returned. • ■.:■:.■
