A large supply at present held in store. The beef ■ market is weak. Supplies of River Plate are increasing in" large quantities. River -Plato chilled arriving in bad condition. Average price to-day for hind-quarter& of New Zealand beef 3 3-8 d per lb., fore-quarters 2 5-8 d p^er lb. Tho butter market is firm. There is r. large demand for better grades. A small shipment by s.sl Athenic arrived in good condition. Average price today: Choice New Zealand butter 114s pei' cwt., Danish 121s. Tho cheese market is rather unsettled. Canadian 575.
Tho hemp market is firm. The price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day, per ton, is £31 10s. Manila, October-September shipments, £41 10s. The cocksfoot, seed market is .quiet. The average price for bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed weighing 17 lbs. per bushel, on spot, is 51s cwt. Kauri Gum.—Ordinary fair, threequarter scraped, £6 10s.; fair half scraped, 90s. Brown fair, half and three-quarter scraped, 775; brown pickings, common good, 445; bush fair, good palo and amber, scrapad, £5 ss. Stock held in London, 1094 tons. Market steady. Demand only moderate. New Zealand long-berried wheat, on spot, granary, per quarter of 496 lbs., 31s; New Zealand short-berried wheat, on spot, granary, per quarter of 596 lbs., 30s. The market is firm with an improved demand. New Zealand oats, short sparrowbills, granary, on spot, per quarter of 384 lbs., 245. New Zealand oats (Danish), granary, on spot, per quarter of 320 lbs., 18s. A general and active demand.
New Zealand beans, f.a.q., old crop, 540 lbs., 33s 6d. The market remains firm.
New Zealand peas (partridge), 504 lbs., 375. New Zealand peas (blue), 29s 6d. The mai'ket is firm. The wcol, market is firm, with a hardening tendency in merinos.
Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, have received the following cablegrams from their London office, dated 2nd November: — Frozen mutton and lamb, since our last telegram prices are at par to l-8d per lb. lower. Frozen Beef: Prices are nominally unchanged. Frozen meat in general:* Believe prices havo touched bottom.
Butter.—The tone of the market is rather worse. Copenhagen official quotation is unchanged. We expect lower prices. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for the week ending 28fch ultimo amounted to 65,00G cwt., as compared with 62,000 cwt., for the corresponding period of last year._ Since our last telegram, tallow in general is Is. per cwt. higher. Spot, near shipment, ire-sellers are offering to sell mixed and for beef tallow, good
colour, 43-43^ deg., at 26s 6d per cwt.; at a reduction or 3d per unit if shipment during November-December per steam.
Slightly better demand for hides in general. Leather (in general), since our last telegram, prices are higher by per lb. Basils (in general) are higher by 2d per lb.
