NO-LICENSE MEETING AT ARAMOHO
In spite of the 'bad wee^h*rst3iere was a very good attendance"art the N<> License meeting, held at Aramoho, last night. Mr W. T. Benefield presided, and in initcroducing tthe speakers asked itlhat they be given an impartial hearing, and stating that questions might •be asked at (the close of tlhe meeting.
Mr Walter Grey was the first speaker, and he dealt with the question of "What would happen *df prohibition were carried in Wanganui," answering, point by point, the liquor party's advertisement in Wednesday might's " Heraild." The Rev. Artihur Denvdney followed, stiating that the electors ■were a jury to decide whether the liquor traffic was conducive to the best interests of i(he community. He stbated that the NoHcense people asked tihat tlhe facts be fairly and honestly considered. They were not fighting persons —they had no feeling against any individuals, but they •believed that the traffic was inimical to the best interests of the people. He! ■went on to prove itfotat liquor was not a necessity, but a luxury, and one too costly to be allowed to continue. It was too costly from every point of view —too costly economicaiMy, too costly in human life and well-being. Questions were asked by Ma* Palmer, of Chavanne's Hotel, and after some remarks by Messrs William Tucker and Fred Falber, a vote of thanks to the chair was carried. Great interest was taken 'in the proceedings by those present.
