WANGANUI CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL.

The committee met last evening at -the Borough Council Chambers. Pre.senlt —Colonel Watt (chairman), Messrs T. M. Coipeland, P. Lewis, J. G. Swan, JT. Williams, R. H. White, G. G. Bullock, J. S. Palmer, W. R. Tuck, C. J. McCarthy and M. Hogan. Several apologies for absence were received. The minutes of the pi-evious meeting were -sread and confirmed.

FlNANCE.—Additional subscriptions as follows:—J. Williams and Co., £1 Is, F. A. Harkness 10s 6d.

SHOOTING.—iA letter <was read from Sergjfc.-M&jor Peacock, secretary of the TWanganui Rifle Association, stating ttihat they had; decided to hold their animal . meeitdng during Gairaival Week, ■on Thursday and Friday, the 28th and 59th of Deoemiber. Also on behalf of -»bhe Executive thanking the Committee for tihedr donation of a champion belt. SAILING. —-Messrs Maokay and Hodgwaited on the committee and asked for a furtifoer donation of £10 to add lanotiher race foi: dingeys. Mr Mackay -lexplained the. position fully, and the -deputation retired while the mattesr was -discussed. On their re-entry the Ohairxuan qonyeycd the information that the ©ommittee regretted that funds would not perundt the amount being granted in view of the big expense incuri'ed in other ways SHOOTING BELT.—Mr W. R. Tuck pnoposed in connection with the belt that it be made locally. Eventually it "Was decided to leave the matter in the lands of the Rifle Association Executive, designs, etc., to be submitted later to the Carnival Committee.

SWIMMING-Messrs A. A. Goiver and M. Hogan waited upon the committee with reference to a grant for the ■swimming sports. Mr Gower preferred request, and mentioned that tlhe sports would be held in the river. He (considered the events would add greatly to tihe general interest.—'Mr Hogan, on beihalf of the club, offered to refund 50 per cent, of the gross profits.—The •amount of £10 was voted. The sports to be (held in tlhe river on Friday and Saturday, (regatta and sailing days. REGATTA.— Mr H. F. Tilley, secreitary of tlhe Waraganui Regatta Associaitaon, wrote to the effect that his executive would be pleased to arrange the regatta for Friday, December 29th. A programme of ten ev^Hts? has been drawn up and eiroula&M, and good oiominatdons were expected. KBOGRAiMiMES.—-It was decided ifchaib the oommdtbee would print and re*ain the sole right to ?sell all programmes in connection witih Carnival functions. ,'- ■;• . WOOD-OHOPPING.—Mr C. Connor, of Raorakia, through Mr J. ,G. Swan, •euggested holding a wood-chopping oompetritdoh, and offered to devote £3 3s, amd "also to find the logs.—lt was decided <to ask Mr Connor for further inmean while thank him. •~ ■•NEWMEMBER®.—-Messrs C. BICYCLE ROAD RACE.—A proposal te holding a road race from Marton in with the sports was i-eferred ■fco the Sports Commdttee. The meeting adjourned with the nisuail compliment to the chair, until next Wednesday.
