THE CATHOLIC BAZAAR.

A LAXKDABLGE OBJECT,

The bulilding of a. church is always a aiotewcirthy event. But it costs money. jßiibks iand. mortiar, timber and labour anust be paid for in coin of the realm, tand tftnis it is. that at special times the -dhurohes aire placed in the position of .appealing to the public for funds to ■carry on their ever-increasing duties. A ftown is built—ia church appears, humble -enough at first. The town, in the march ~<d£ progress, merges into a city—a more imposing edifice is ereoetd. The city •extends its boundaries —a branch church tis necessary for the residents of suburibia.

This is exactly the case in progressive Wanganui. St. Mary's Ohunch, tfdG'my though it is, would not be large -enough to shelter all its worshippers -were they to attend all at one time. The *ime has arrived when a suitable church is necessary in the suburb of Anamoho. Money is urgently needed, and the ijazaar is the thing whereby to raise the amount necessary. Everyone is invited 4o help in this work. For eight nights, -commencing from November 14, the fcazaiar will 'be in full swing ~and we -expect to see the Drill Hall crowded -with eager buyers, and lovers of healthy amusements. Nightly an attractive programme, varied enough to suit both ■old and young, will be given. A 'Committee meeting was held ' laist aright at the Presbytery, when impoir■fcant business was transacted. Full par•fcioulaais of the bazaar will appear next iweek. In the meantime our advice is: ISJeep the eight nights from November "3.4 th free >and attend'the bazaar as often jas possible.
