PARAPARA ROAD.—A communication was received from the Minister of Public Works stating that the Parapara road would receive careful consideration when the Estimates were prepared. WHARFAGE REDUCTION—A letter was received from the Canterbury Steamship Company asking the Chambar to endeavour to obtain la reduction in freight on cargo for transhipment.—lt was resolved that a committee, consisting of the, Chairman - and Messrs. Keesing, Harper, Cresswell, and Millward, be appointed to inquire into the matter of wharf charges and the desirability of recommending to the Harbour Board the policy of differential rates on goods for country towns and districts, arid to report result at next meeting.. SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. — A motion by Mr Sutherland that the weekly halMioliday be observed on Saturday was lost.
