Mr. 0. N. Firth, of the Westport Coal Company, was on Friday presented by the local office s>baff with a handsomo set of carvers on the occasion of bis approaching marriage. The Very Rev. Father Hays, who has teen for some weeks in Wellington, as the gii'Sst of Dr. and Mrs. Mackin, left by train on Friday, for Napier, where ho will join; the Manuka, and proceed to Auckland. He will there be the guest of the Hon. J, A. Tole, and will return to .Wellington in about six w^seks prior to his departure for Sydney en route for England. The rev. gt-ntleman's health has improved considerably, but he is still forbidden to speakin public, or indeed to. engage in arduous work of any kind.
