AN ELECTION CONUNDRUM.
To the Editor
Sir,—Mr Bassett on Wednesday evening, when as&ed if lie thought it right that one of his (Mr. Bassatt's) workmen should be on the committee of another candidate, and working against Mr. Bassett's interest, replied somewhat in these terms: "That it was an unfair question to put to him, but that it one of his mon came to him privately and asked his consent, he would tell him to please himself in such matters. He bad never, although always taking •a lively interest in all ©lections, attempted to influence his men to vote as he himself did." Now, I would like to Sit this question to that employee of r. Bassett's: If you wer© in the employ of the Government, say. in Mr. Seddo'n's district (or any other district for that matter), and worked as a committeeman for an Opposition candidate, how long would it be before the Government you support so loyally dispensed with your valuable services, for some weighty reason, quite unconnected with the committee business of course? -I am, etc., UNCLE RASTUS . R.S.V.P.
