CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
To the Editor,
Sir,—We have, I b#ieve, in our town ft Society for Prevention or Cruelty to Animals. We have also £fe police force Now,' sif,;lHvant to know how it is that neither of thesa bodies have ev^er had a case against anyone.for docking horses' tails. Hardly a day p&sses but what one or more cross mytrack. In fact, only the other day I saw one which had just been 'doneGentlemen and lady (?) (kindly notothe query mark) riders, to improve (?> tho appearance of their horses, dock the> tails with the idea of its.lending a more-hrnter-like appearance to the_ horse,, and nevar take into consideration thefact that the tail is;the only protectionv. a horse has to prevent itself from being tormented by flies, etc. Anothertling is that a horse, with a quick swish of its tail, very often gives the> dreaded bot fly a cropper and saves; itself from this pest. If I am not veryir.i eh mistaken, I believe an Act ha&----bof-n parsed making dockers liable to a-, ■very licavy fine. Hoping th's may wake thoso in authority up.—l anij, GtC" LONG TAIL.
