WELLINGTON, October 23. During the past three years, 305 applicants for admission to the railway service were rejected as medically unfit, and 47 as unable to furnish the necessary educational certificate. The fee of 10s. 6d. for the medical examination is paid by the Department. A return presented to-day shows a loss of graduated land tax through tha subdivision of estates among the relatives of owners, of £9,153 for the ten years 1895-1905. A notification is returned to-day of a proposal to give Judge Ward a pension of £800 a year from April 1, 1906.
