ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT.

BUNEDIN, October 22. E. G. Monk, booking clerk at the Dimedin railway station, was arrested to-day on a charge of -embezzlement. It is understood a considerable sum is involved, although the present charge is only £1
AUCKLAND, October 23. William Oldham, a middle-aged man, ivas charged with having Tailed to account to Messrs. Heather, Robertson, and Co., between September 22 and October 10, for sums amounting to &IUJ 3s Id received from Annio PreSton and others. Arthur B. Robertson said tho acoused had been employed by the firm as town traveller. A list ot payments made by the firm's customers to accused was handed to witness, who su:d that accused had failed to account for the sum of £102 3s. Id. When the deficiency was discovered accused stated that he had lost a roll of notes. Acci.ged pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence, bail being allowed himself in £300 and two sureties ot £150 each.
